North Wales Golf trip

This golf journey to North Wales is ideally suited to experienced golfers looking for a unique and authentic links experience. Here, you play amidst dramatic landscapes where sea, dunes and mountains combine to create a setting for golf in its purest form.

At Royal St David’s Golf Club, you play beneath the imposing walls of Harlech Castle. This traditional links course is renowned for its deep bunkers, natural dunes and demanding green complexes.

Aberdovey Golf Club offers a classic coastal setting with expansive sand dunes and fast-running fairways, where positioning from the tee is crucial and the wind constantly influences play.

The famous “Point holes” at Nefyn & District Golf Club are among the most spectacular in British golf, set on a narrow peninsula high above the sea. The views are breathtaking, but any shot drifting too far offline can disappear unforgivingly toward the sea below — concentration is essential. Midway through the round lies the famous Ty Coch Inn, one of Wales’ most picturesque seaside pubs, where golfers descend from the course directly onto the beach terrace.

Each course presents a different tactical challenge. The blind holes at Porthmadog Golf Club demand trust in your line and course management, while at Conwy Golf Club the unpredictable winds from the Irish Sea constantly shape the rhythm and strategy of the round.

North Wales combines dramatic scenery, historic castles and traditional links golf into a journey that feels intense, varied and unforgettable.

Accommodatie

Your base during this trip is Caerwylan Hotel, beautifully located beside the sea in the charming village of Criccieth. This charming coastal town, with the historic Criccieth Castle overlooking the bay, combines character, tranquillity and stunning scenery. Its central location makes it an ideal base for golf throughout the region.

Only the journey to Aberdovey Golf Club is slightly longer, but the route passes through the spectacular Snowdonia National Park — a panoramic drive that becomes part of the experience itself.

After your round, return to the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. Enjoy a drink in the cosy sea-view bar or take a short walk into the village to one of the local pubs, where golfers gather to relive the day’s play. Criccieth combines hospitality, scenery and golf in a way that makes this journey as enjoyable away from the course as it is on it.

Destination

Experience the best of North Wales

North Wales is a region where nature and golf come together in dramatic fashion. The coastline winds past dunes, cliffs and wide sandy beaches, with the mountains of Snowdonia National Park rising in the background. Golf here is played in a landscape that feels both rugged and pure — open to the wind and deeply connected to the elements.

Around Harlech, the medieval Harlech Castle forms an iconic backdrop above the coastline. At its foot lies Royal St David’s Golf Club, a traditional links course where natural dunes and deep bunkers shape every round. Along the same coastline, Porthmadog Golf Club blends links and parkland characteristics, while Nefyn & District Golf Club is renowned for its spectacular holes played across a narrow peninsula high above the sea.

Further south, Aberdovey Golf Club offers classic links golf beside expansive sand dunes, while Abersoch Golf Club combines a more relaxed coastal atmosphere with subtle strategic challenges. On the north coast near Llandudno, North Wales Golf Club provides sweeping sea and mountain views, where precision and wind control are essential.

On the island of Anglesey, golf takes on a wilder edge. Holyhead Golf Club and Bull Bay Golf Club sit high above the Irish Sea, offering a dramatic combination of cliffs, elevation changes and constant coastal winds. Here, golf feels elemental and untamed.

What sets North Wales apart is the sheer variety within its golf — from traditional dune links to cliffside layouts and elevated coastal courses, all shaped by the landscape around them.
